You could spend $40 on a naff beginner kit with blunt carving tools, crumbly lino and a handful of questionable extras, but you’ll be paying for it in other ways.

My recommendation, and something I wish I’d done, is to invest in a quality lino printing experience from the get-go. It’ll shave years off your learning journey. Because when you’ve got the right tools for the job and you know what you’re doing, lino printing can become your new creative obsession.

- Speedball lino carving tool and blades – elite!
- Quality ezi carve lino – the good sh!t. This stuff is less taxing on your wrist and neck while carving and with the right depth and precision, a sensory delight
Printing
Objective: crispy prints!
- Brayer / roller – no lumps and bumps here! You’ll achieve nice, even ink application
- Derivan block printing ink – water soluble and therefore more gentle on your skin
- Baren – the original gangster bamboo rubbing tool
- Spatula – with a sturdy handle
- Assorted papers – to experiment with! You’ll be amazed to see how this can change the mood of your prints!
