Mixed Media Works

I like to travel – a lot. I love getting lost in the visual feast of towns and cities. The architecture, the histories, the stories etched into every corner. I find myself drawn to streets and alleyways where, over time, raw, layered surfaces have created grungy, colourful walls. Where paint has been applied and then peeled off, or fallen away. Posters, scrawls of graffiti, stencils and stickers, all slapped on top of one another creating something unexpected and unique. It’s a living canvas—weathered, chaotic, and ever changing.

This is my inspiration for these works.

While the process for my printmaking is more precise and thought-out, the approach I have taken for my mixed media works is experimental, random and unexpected. Having said that, I bring order to the chaos by balancing textures, colours and elements. Although the process for compiling these works is unplanned and somewhat spontaneous, there is an intuitive method to the madness.

Gods, Portals & Toast

Exploring alternate origin theories to human existence.

“TOAST GOD”

Considering the possibility that we live in one of unlimited universes, with unlimited possibilities, who’s to say there’s no multiverse where Toast is divine? A recent scientific theory suggests that our Milky Way is the merging of our universe with another.

Multiverse chaos. A Toast God appears, enshrined in stone. Worshipped by all. Our neighbours?

Stencil art, spray paint and paint splatters. Overlaid collaged lino prints. Hand painted highlights and gradients. Geometry attempting order within the disorder.

“RAIN MANTIS”

Clouds forming over Mexico City. No rain for months.

A creator being, the Rain Mantis moves between worlds. He who bringeth the rain.

Captured in transit, a fantastical interpretation of what exists beyond the portal, beyond dark matter.

Collaged lino prints layered with drawing, painting, mark making, hand-made stamps and emphasis on black and white highlights.

“DIOS TIKI”

Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent in Mesoamerican cultures, is said to have created the earth and the stars. He is bursting at the seams, splitting in two, mirroring, opening, spewing out creation. – within and without.

Preliminary sketch and lino print together as one. Repeat pattern stamped onto canvas or applied as collage elements. Texture using stamps, stencils, drawing and mark making. All thoughtlessly and thoughtfully interwoven to give you “Dios Tiki”.

Lino Prints

Mesoamerica

Transformation.

Whether it is the exploration of forgotten elements, the release of emotions or the awakening of self, you are invited on a journey of introspection, to embrace the complexities of identity, spirituality, and personal growth.

Through the lens of Mesoamerican iconography and symbolism, these works speak to the universal processes of creation, destruction, and rebirth, encouraging a deeper connection to self and the freeing up of trapped energy.

These works serve as portals into ancient symbolism and personal catharsis, inviting you to engage with both the familiar and the mysterious realms of the human experience.

All works are original hand-pulled limited edition lino prints and are available to buy!

“EL OLVIDADO”

El Olvidado – the Forgotten One. This was an original design I created at a wood block carving workshop in Mexico. This piece inspired the whole series as did the incredible printmakers of Oaxaca!

“THE FORGOTTEN ONE”

The jaguar, a powerful symbol in many Mesoamerican traditions, represents strength and the spiritual world. In Mayan & Aztec mythology, the jaguar was associated with power, the underworld, and the spiritual realm, often depicted as a guardian of the jungle.

El Olvidado, The Forgotten One represents the coy and the illusive side of us all.

“EVA PROMENADES”

Quetzalcoatl (feathered serpent)is an Aztec god said to have created the earth, the sky and the first woman and man.

Meet Eva, essentially the Spanish Eve. She sports the latest in Quetzalcoatl fashion. Her stylish headdress is adorned with two serpent figures (angel and devil), a conch shell horn and the feathers of a cool, plumed bird I’ve forgotten the name of.

Eva means “life” or “mother of life”. This piece is an invitation to inner goddess energy. It is about birthing a new aspect of the divine feminine.

Also available with other backgrounds.

“RAIN MANTIS”

It was dry, dry, dry in Mexico. Brown. No green. Flying over Mexico City, the clouds were forming over the mountains, a storm was brewing.

A portal opened and out stepped a mantis… the Rain Mantis.

It rained that day.

“QUETZALCOATL”

Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent, embodies creation, fertility, and the natural world in Mesoamerican culture. Along with his brother, he is said to have created the first man and woman, highlighting his role as a creator deity revered for his connections to agriculture and rain.

I process a lot through my art. I later came to realise that this piece was about releasing anger and resentment. I saw a seething, writhing snake in my belly that has transformed into strength and ferocity.
